Event: Portrait of Britain.

Steppers  were excited to learn that we had been selected as one of the winners of the renowned Portrait of Britain Award. James Cannon, a photographer we have been working with, submitted this amazing  Still off the team. We are featured in the 2025 Vol book and will be showcased on JCDccaux digital screens all over the UK up to February 2025. We are beyond proud to represent Women of Colour across the UK in the inspiring movement of Women’s Walking Football. It’s a celebration of our journey and our community as well  as a recognition that highlights our mission to empower, inspire, and create change.

AWARD

Date: March 2023, Event: Paphos Tournament, Cyprus

Steppers proudly attended their first tournament abroad, hosted by Paphos  United Walking Club. With nine teams participating, it was fantastic to see so many women from various parts of the world coming together and creating new connections. We returned home beaming with pride after winning the Plate Cup—a remarkable achievement for our team! This victory was especially meaningful as we proudly represented Women of Colour on an international stage.

It was an unforgettable experience, and we’re excited to continue building bridges and breaking barriers in women’s walking football.

AWARD

Date: March 2024, Event: Eurocopa Tournament. Portugal

Following the positive experience and achievements of our first international tournament, Steppers eagerly attended their second event abroad. It was wonderful to reunite with teams we had met the previous year, as well as connect with new teams participating in this ever-growing competition. All our training, our cohesive teamwork, and commitment to individual goals paid off. We were ecstatic to win the Plate Cup for the second time! The team’s outstanding performance is earning Steppers increasing recognition on the international stage, and we couldn’t be prouder of our progress and accomplishments.

ACHIEVEMENT

Date: 1/02/24, Location: Stone Bridge Area, Event: Caribbean Men’s Awards Ceremony

Following a friendly match earlier this year, Steppers were honored to be invited to the Walking Football Caribbean Awards Ceremony and a training session.Building strong relationships with male football clubs is a key priority for us. It aligns with our mission to promote visibility, foster understanding, and collaborate on changing attitudes toward gender-related issues in football. This event provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen connections,  share perspectives, and continue working toward a more inclusive and equitable future in the sport. Additionally, being among a community with a shared cultural background gave us a deeper sense of belonging. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and the unifying role football can play in bringing people together.

ACHIEVEMENT

Date: Sunday 5th November 2023, Location: Wadham Lodge Sports Grounds. Event: Leyton Orient Mens

We are proud of our long-standing relationship with Leyton Orient Women’s Walking Football Club and are equally committed to proactively developing connections with men’s teams.

As we navigate a traditionally male-dominated sport, we recognize the importance of addressing gender dynamics and advocating for inclusivity. Our efforts aim to pave the way for more mixed-gender games, fostering mutual respect and collaboration on the field.

Additionally, we are passionate about highlighting the need for more female referees, ensuring greater representation and equality in all aspects of the game. Together, we strive to create a more inclusive future in walking football.

ACHIEVEMENT

Date: 2023, Location: Allbright Club Mayfair Event: Uplifting Women’s Award 

Vinnette Campbell was  deeply honored to have been nominated by her  goalkeeper Linda Thomas  for the Uplifting Women’s Award under the Inspiring Women category. Being held in such high regard and recognized for her  hard work toward realizing her  vision is truly humbling.

However, she was unable  take all the credit. As the saying goes, “There is no I in team.” Building this club and fostering its growth would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of the entire team. This nomination is a reflection of our collective effort and shared commitment to empowering women and making a difference.

ACHIEVEMENT

Date: 21.10.23, Location: Lee Valley Velo Park, Event: Sponsored bike ride: 

Our right midfielder organized an incredible 10K bike ride at the Lee Valley VeloPark to raise funds for our upcoming tournament in Portugal, March 2024. We were thrilled to have the support of Bikeworks, who generously provided bikes and a volunteer to assist with the ride. Their contribution ensured the event ran smoothly and safely.

This bike ride exemplifies our team’s commitment, innovation, and creativity in finding fun and sustainable ways to achieve our goals. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported this amazing initiative! Right Mid player Roz who organised this.

ACHIEVEMENT

Charmaine Bent: FA Referee & Match Official 

Date: February 2023

Charmaine Bent is a qualified FA Referee and Match Official, and proudly one of the few women of colour in this space. As the number of female referees continues to grow, Charmaine is passionate about using her platform to advocate for greater representation and inspire more women of colour to step into officiating roles within football.

Her presence on the pitch not only brings skill and professionalism but also serves as a powerful symbol of visibility and change in a space where diversity is still underrepresented.

ACHIEVEMENT

Glenys; Squad member for South East Region

Date: 2025

Glenys successfully entered the trials and was selected for the South East Region Over 60s Walking Football Team. She is now an official member of the Super League, regularly taking part in training sessions and competing in matches at a higher and more competitive level.

Her involvement not only reflects her dedication and skill but also represents a significant step forward in increasing visibility for Women of Colour in senior-level walking football. Glenys continues to make a positive impact both on and off the pitch, championing inclusion and excellence.

Julian Roberts: Goalkeeper Coach

Date: 2025

Julian Roberts is a professionally qualified Goalkeeper Coach who has worked with a range of football clubs, including women’s teams. He is now a valued member of the Steppers coaching team.

Recognising that goalkeepers often miss out on dedicated training, Julian’s coaching has brought a new level of consistency, confidence, and technical development to our squad. This tailored approach has boosted self-esteem, improved positioning and decision-making, and led to clear improvements in performance for our goalkeepers.
